Palais des Nations

Okay, so I know that this is quite a basic suggestion and that everyone living in Geneva for sure has gone to the Palais des Nations, right!? No?

Well, if you've been here for a while you really should go at least once to do the Sfr 12.- one-hour tour of the UN building. This center of world diplomacy welcomes more than 25.000 delegates each year. There are various art works offered as gifts by different countries which will be shown also during the tour. Among these, probably the most important one is the ceiling of the Human Rights and Alliance for Civilisation room created by Miquel Barceló and donated by the Spanish government, which caused a big debate in Spain due to its high cost.

You will learn a bit about the UN's history, its activities and although everyone knows how huge the UN is, this tour will give a new meaning to what you call "huge"!

Don't forget to take your time admiring the Broken Chair art work in front of the UN's main entrance, by Daniel Berset, which was created to honor landmines victims and urge governments to promote a ban on landmines.

Driving on ice at Flaine

If you want to have fun driving on ice or follow a course, visit Flaine! There you can find the longest ice circuit of France. It is 1km long and 12-15m wide, and it has been created to teach how to avoid all the dangers you could find while driving on a mountain road with your car. Each night the circuit is watered so that you have at least a 25cm layer of ice that will hold the cars safely on the ground.

The circuit is open from December to March and is better to book in advance. And although at some moments you can race with your own car, the main idea of the circuit, created by a rally racer, is to teach drivers how to drive during winter.

Check their site: http://www.circuitglace.com

And enjoy!!!

Inglewood!

One of my favourites, if not my favourite, place for burgers in Geneva: Inglewood!

Delicious, big, tasty burgers, accompanied with a salad and fries! Even the two types of salads they have, if you go with someone who does not care for a burger (chicken salad and goat cheese salad) are amazing!

Visit any of their two restaurants either in Plainpalais or in Eaux-Vives and don't forget to book in advance!

Olivier Föllmi

My friend Nagore informed me of this photograph and video exhibition taking place from the 17th of January until the 6th of April at EspaceExpo SIG. It is amazing to have the opportunity of seeing Olivier Föllmi's work… and for free! Föllmi has had the most extraordinary life and his beautiful photographs really transport you to far away corners of the world. Even if this exhibition is a bit small, it shows some amazing pictures. Don't miss it!

"My profession as a photographer allows me to experience and transmit the beauty of this world to testify to a Humanity that holds promise and to inspire love". Olivier F öllmi.

Opening hours:

Monday to Friday: From 9am to 5pm
